I'm like anyone else, in that I sometimes need inspiration. I also like to try to understand why I do what I do, both in teaching, and in making music as art.
I listened to an interview with Rick Rubin, a famous record producer, on the Rich Roll Podcast, and immediately resonated with much of what he had to say.
If I would were to grossly over-simplify his message, it would be to say that one need primarily focus on the process of creation, as opposed to the why or even the outcomes of their efforts. For those who feel the urge to create, and voice their opinion in the form of art in the world, it is more a compulsion that compels us from below conscious thought.
As I say though, that's a pretty bare-bones summary, and he elaborates much more in the book, including examples from his storied history of producing albums for some of the worlds most popular artists.
At any rate, I finished it last night, and I felt like mentioning these things and recommending the book were appropriate.
Please understand, I have to affiliation with Mr. Rubin. The links below are, however, Amazon affiliate links. If you're not already familiar, it doesn't cost you anything if you use one, but it helps me keep teaching and doing what I do by donating a small amount of your purchase to my channel, and I appreciate it.
